Who is responsible for your data

This website, Before I, is run by a private individual, whose name will be published here before launch (to be confirmed). Before I is not a company. The person who runs Before I is the data controller for personal data processed through this website under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. No data protection officer has been appointed, because one is not required.

How to contact us

Contact details will be published before launch.

What we collect and why

Server logs. When you visit the site, our web hosting provider, 123-reg (GoDaddy group), automatically records technical data such as your IP address, the date and time of your visit, the page requested and your browser type. We use these logs only to keep the site secure and working, for example to detect and deal with misuse or faults.

We do not use the logs to identify, track or profile visitors, and we collect no other personal data through this site. There are no forms, accounts, newsletters, analytics or advertising.

Our lawful basis

We rely on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Our interest is running a website that is secure and works properly. We have weighed this against your interests: the data is limited to what a web server records as standard, it is kept for a short time and it is not used to identify or profile you, so we believe the impact on you is minimal.

Who receives your data

We do not sell your data or share it with anyone else, unless the law requires us to.

International transfers

Whether 123-reg (GoDaddy group) or its own service providers process data outside the UK, and which safeguard applies, is to be confirmed. Where that happens, the transfer is protected by the safeguards required by UK data protection law, such as a UK adequacy decision or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. Details of these safeguards are available on request, using the contact details that will be published before launch.

How long we keep data

Server logs are kept for a limited period, to be confirmed with 123-reg, and are then deleted.

Your rights

Under the UK GDPR you have the right to:

To use any of these rights, contact us using the details that will be published before launch. We will reply within one month. Because we keep server logs only briefly and do not link them to names, we may need some details from you, such as the date and time of your visit and your IP address, to find your data.

Your right to complain

If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, 0303 123 1113. We would welcome the chance to put things right first, so please contact us before you do.

Do you have to give us data?

No. You do not have to provide any personal data to use this site. Server logs are recorded automatically by any web server; without them the site could not be delivered to you securely.

Automated decisions

We make no automated decisions about you, including profiling.

Cookies and device storage

We use no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. The only thing stored on your device is your journal (saved as ‘beforei-journal’), if you use it and press Save entry. It stays only in this browser, on this device, and is never sent to us. It doesn’t move to another device. It is kept until you delete it with the Delete my journal button or clear your browser data, and it is explained in our cookie policy.

The journal is saved in localStorage only, under the key ‘beforei-journal’. We use no analytics and no third-party cookies, so there is no cookie banner. If we ever add analytics, or embedded content that uses cookies, we will ask for your consent first. ## Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal data, we will update this page and the date above.
